While students of Janakpur Engineering College (JEC) and Kathford International College of Engineering and Management (KICEM) have been left in the lurch after the licenses of their colleges were scrapped by the Nepal Engineering Council on Sunday, the council said on Tuesday that three more colleges have been blacklisted.

Kantipur City College at New Baneshwar, Kantipur City College, Putalisadak and United Technical College, Chitwan are the three colleges that have been blacklisted, said NEC chairperson Shaligram Singh.

HIST is owned by NEC board member Engineer Mahendra Gurung who is also the chairperson of the Nepal Engineers´ Association.

Earlier on Sunday, NEC had decided to scrap the licenses of JEC and KICEM after they were found to have enrolled more students than permitted by the council. The students of KICEM on Tuesday shared with Republica that their practical classes have not been conducted for the last four months. “I am in the fourth semester BE. There are 80 students in my faculty. I did not know that NEC has permitted the college to enroll only 48 students,” said Ananda Chaudhari.

The students of both colleges have planned to stage protests against their respective colleges for leaving them in the lurch.

Meanwhile, principal of JEC Ram Briksh Yadav claimed that his college had begun the process of registering for more seats with the council. “We want the council to give us a chance.”

According to Singh, students will either have to be shifted to other colleges or the colleges can be given time to upgrade their infrastructure.
